We enter the town by passing a wooden pedestrian bridge that joins two sides of the town, on each of which there is a church.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"figure aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12100\" src=\"http:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-05.jpg\" alt=\"Guamaggiore\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-05.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-05-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-05-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-05-600x600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-05-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"figure-caption text-center\">Nuragic well inside Santa Maria Maddalena church<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On one side, past a pine forest, is the <strong>church of Santa Maria Maddalena<\/strong>, built on a nuraghe. Next to it, a restored building will become a museum. Inside the church, there is a Nuragic well and two very ancient burials, impressive! The village elders say that this is where the cattle fair took place in ancient times. Today, where the slaughterhouse was once located, there are the oil mills of the <strong>Goymaior oil mill<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On the other side of the pedestrian bridge is the Romanesque <strong>church of San Pietro<\/strong> from 1214, the original nucleus of the ancient town where there was also another church that has now disappeared. This beautiful little church, restored several times, is located along the <strong>path of Santu Jacu<\/strong>, the Sardinian Santiago.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"figure aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12092\" src=\"http:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-01.jpg\" alt=\"Guamaggiore\" width=\"1365\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-01.jpg 1365w, https:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-01-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-01-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-01-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1365px) 100vw, 1365px\" \/><figcaption class=\"figure-caption text-center\">San Pietro church<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The mayor Antonio, but everyone here calls him Nello, together with the councilor Nicola, give me information on the origin of the name of the town, still uncertain : the original name <strong>Goimaior<\/strong> would mean &#8220;greater ford&#8221; or &#8220;main court&#8221;, the Sardinian Courmayeur!<\/p>\n<p>They take me to a hill where the aqueduct is located and where once there was a nuraghe, which has disappeared. At the former Monte Granatico there is a plaque commemorating <strong>Antioco Vincenzo Melis<\/strong>, a playwright born here. The church of <strong>San Sebastiano<\/strong> is closed for security reasons, but in the nearby oratory of the Madonna del Rosario there is a beautiful <strong>retable from the sixteenth century<\/strong>, discovered by restoring the choir area.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"figure aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12094\" src=\"http:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-02.jpg\" alt=\"Guamaggiore\" width=\"1365\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-02.jpg 1365w, https:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-02-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-02-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/377project.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/359-Guamaggiore-blog-02-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1365px) 100vw, 1365px\" \/><figcaption class=\"figure-caption text-center\">Trexenta vineyards<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Once out of the village, the plowed fields are planted with wheat, beans and legumes. There are also many vineyards, once belonging to the <strong>Trexenta<\/strong> cellars and now owned by Enrico Melis di <a href=\"http:\/\/377project.com\/en\/345-377-barrali\/\">Barrali<\/a> who produces the <strong>Barru wine<\/strong>. His most famous comedy, <em><strong>Ziu Paddori<\/strong><\/em>, was performed in Cagliari in 1919.
